Usually 38+p 158g LSWCHP. Not fancy I know, but I like it. I did recently get a Glock 29 in case I start getting that fancy feeling, but currently most my 10mm ammo is probably too hot for HD or EDC. (I have a glock 20 also)
What do you think about Underwood or Hornady 10mm XTP in 155 or 180 grain? Open to suggestions there.
Also if anyone reading this feels the need to pontificate at length/rant about how much they hate 10mm just don't please. I don't care and don't want the topic to devolve into that. Thoughtful opinions are welcome!
That's the only glock that I'm ever interested in owning.
I think 10mm is a great load, and that gun is surprisingly easy and comfortable to shoot.
As for hornady/ underwood. The hornady loads I've seen for similar stuff were not impressive performers, compared to others. I would chose another brand. However, under performing 10mm is still a decent option.
Underwood, and Buffalo Bore are very similar, so I will talk about them as though they are the same company here:
They have a few basic product lines:
1) popular component bullets from name brands pushed to hotter velocities, i.e. XTP, Speer Gold Dot, etc.
2) no name bullets with no description of origin. Just category. i.e. Lead hardcast semi wad cuttter, JHP....
3) Component bullets developed with specific manufacturers, such as LeHigh.
My answer depends on what category.
Category 3 stuff tends to be good performance at whatever the claimed intent is. max penetration = max penetration, etc.
Category 2 stuff is hit and miss, and they both change around the components without distinguishing the change, so you can't count on any product like this to be good or bad. The unbranded 180 grain JHP ___FPS load that performed well on the test might not be the same projectile as the one you get when you order it. That's useless for serious purpose.
Category 1 is theoretically impressive, but in every single test I've seen, very dissapointing. Simply put, those component projectiles are engineered to work at a particular impact velocity. Push them too fast, and they over expand or fragment, and underpenetrate. I've read and watched dozens of tests, and they are ALL that way. Better to get the gold dots from speer at normal velocity, or the XTP from hornady at standard velocity. It will work better, and with less recoil too.
As for what is the best 10mm defensive load on the market now? Dunno. This guy's videos are a sensible place to start:
https://www.youtube.com/user/ShootingTh ... query=10mmI'm not up to date with exact product lines, but I followed all of that closely a couple years ago. I would not buy Buffalo Bore or Underwood 10mm JHP for defense against people. I would buy their hard cast SWC for woods duty where deep penetration is an issue. But that is the sort of thing I would make myself.
