Nice KISS rig. How I prefer a shotgun. What light is that? How is it's field?

The light is a Streamlight TLR-1 HPL 775-800 lumen. $125 at primary Arms or ebay. The Mount is a modified Beamshot RF9, $30 on ebay, I separated the 2 halves and put the curved portions in my vice to remove about half of the curve contour, this allows it to fit almost perfectly around the VEPR gas block.
The HPL model with the large globe lights up my whole 4 acre front lawn, very bright straight line light with plenty of spill over to light a wide area. The HL model is basically the same light with a smaller globe, still very bright, just a more concentrated beam.
The grip is an HK vertical grip.

Nice job. How hard/easy was the modification? What is the weight of the handguard?

308 15" inch Free Float Round Tube Handguard Black 6061-T6 Aluminum

Bead Blast with Type III Black Anodizing

1 Piece Free Float Tube

Weight: 17oz

OD: 2.24"

ID 1.975"

Weight: 17oz (listing discription) theres a section that gets cut off at the gas tube , that might weigh about an ounce. so 16 oz.finished weight my guess. The mod was time -consuming. if one tinkers a lot and has hand dexterity its no problem. Cutting and filing the hand guard to fit was quick and easy because the M slot type openings are placed in a perfect position for the gas tube /block clearance. I just cut in between the slots along that line. The hard part was retainer build and placement. I used the guards deco end cap as the rearward retainer (lots of dremel and round filing). The piece of end cap that came off after making the U cut fits nicely as the main forward retainer its profile. It is the perfect radius at that section of barrel ( bolted to factory retainer after i shaved off the sling loops and about 3/16th from the bottom of it. ) It also gives you the 4th bolt to use for mounting ( a bit small ), hopefully blue locktite will keep it in there. if i loose the little screw and hand guard comes loose, i will re tap it for bigger bolt.
heres pic of the retainer..Image/url]
For $40.00 shipped + some household items i had, I feel like i won the V12 hand guard lottery. :)

I can't believe it's been over six years now since I got this thread going.

Can't remember if I ever posted pictures of what my VEPR 12 looks like in SBS form....
