It is difficult when I try to do it just on my phone. I end up emailing them to myself & the phone asks me if I want to resize them.

I use Microsoft Paint, easiest way, unless you have one of those MAC & cheese thingies...

I can't seem to get an avatar to work. Tells me that the picture is either too big or it's 0x0
Can't figure out how to fix it.

Avatar has to be shrunk even more. Go to Shrink Pictures and they have a downsize for Avatar.
