When doing a front end conversion on a Vepr rifle, can you just use a regular old gas tube? As in, replace the long looking one that comes stock with a regular sporter rifle, with a flanged tube with the wooden upper handgaurd?

It would be going on a 23" 7.62x39er

I don't think they swap.I think Dinzag Arms might have aftermarket gas tubes for Veprs.

I just bought an Ak47 gas tube from CSS w/ wooden handguard. That hanguard was a you know what to put on lol. The gas tube isn't fitting. It clicks in but wont lock in. I compared the original vepr gas tube the ak gas toube and the ak gas tube is just beefier. I've been going at it with a file now trying to get it to fit. CSS's description said it will fit, but will need sligt modification so I guess filing it down will do the trick. I've had enough filing for today though. When I get it to fit (I hope) Ill write back.

Dont put anything smaller than your elbow in the gas tube.

When a need for maintenance is indicated via malfunction or service interval, replace it.

Unless you plan on relocating the gas block on the 23" Vepr you can change out with a standard Russian AKM gas tube.
