our sinister politicians with the help of ignorant masses (who helped elect them and didn't stop them) have found one more way to annoy and infringe on the gun rights by forcing lead containing bullet ammo ban for hunting in kalifornia

they even call it Non-toxic

Doubletap has some but they charge for it too

This creates the same laugh from me that it does when they talk about sterilizing the needle for the guy they're giving the death penalty to.

yes,
in the meantime
lead free ammo in calibers other than for most common bubba bolt guns is non existent in any local gun stores or big chain retailers (including 223 and 300clown ~er... aacBLK)

"lead free 7.62 by What? " -is the usual response

not to mention handgun calibers (with exception of 357mag)

and soon the background check/buy in store only/no internet sales kicks in...

this is just stupid
hence the new necessity - reloading
unless Trump... ?
...nah, too many cali sheep.

Might try searching frangible ammo also. Usually its lead free, even if it isnt its main advertising point. Seems like the new necessity would be moving. That state is a lost cause.

Actually you are dead wrong about that anything .308-.309 has tons of copper bullet choices, and that includes 300blackout. It's .312' ammo that has to make do with clumsy choices. (Though plenty of people have shot 308" bullets out of Russian guns with decent results.)

This rule in cali is old news, and each of the major manufacturers has a couple compliant products, at around a dollar a shot. If you reload, berger bullets is an obvious choice for a quality hunting round. They make loaded 300 BO Stuff too, and several projectiles designed for that. Ditto for barnes. I'm pretty sure both Sierra and Nosler have copper solid offerings too.

I think the rule sucks, and I am a lot more concerned with Obama's EO about lead ammo on federal lands for general use. Hunting is small quantity, so expensive ammo isn't that much of a bite. Training and recreational shooting is where it will hurt.

Casting is a valid option.

I cast the lee "160" grain bullet which in lead comes out to 155. If using a lead substitute, it would probably be closer to 150 grain, though I believe the rotometals alloy is designed to be the same density as popular bullet alloys.

People have also done zinc, but having cast that, I don't think you want to mess with zinc.
