Someone on another forum mentioned this being low quality. Have any of you used this stuff?

Here's my "internet know it all" opinion

I would call it medium quality. I haven't used their #1, but I have used their OOB, OOOOB and some other stuff too.

S&B has pros and cons.

Pro
- clear hull lets you see what you have inside
- established brand with consistent reliable quality. You won't be getting duds.
-pellets are stacked neatly, not just dumped in like remington.
-12 pellet at 1200 FPS(or probably a shade less in reality) makes for a better pattern than the standard 9 pellet OOB load, and less recoil.
- a decent number of likely effective wounds per shot. 12 at ~11-12" maybe 10"
- over penetration is not a huge concern.

Con
-clear hulls are softer and more prone to damage, especially at the roll crimp. the #1 buck would be less vulnerable than the OOb because the pellets support the hull better. Bent crimps can interfere with feeding.
- no buffer material and basic fiber wad. So your patterns will be a little wider and a little less consistent than more costly premium ammo.
- S&B tends to be a little lower velocity than standard feild loads, not by a lot but still. Since standard 1325 FPS field load is about perfect penetration (13-14") with #1 B I will list this as a con. This load has only 1200 FPS, which means you could expect it to penetrate ~11-12" in calibrated gel. It does mean a shade lower recoil. If we were talking about OOB, I would count it as a plus, since that would be a move towards more optimal penetration.

In short, I would feel safe using this as HD ammo, but I would make sure the rounds in the mag were not chewed up. I would prefer this load to the normal 9 pellet OOB load most people choose, but it is not the very best combination around.

Wow thorough run down, thanks. I'll report back how it does for me.

Fifty rounds went flawless thru my Vepr. Recoil was definitely lighter but still there. Decent cheap rounds to have around I'd say.
