I have an old belt with spent rounds hanging on my wall as a decoration (not sure of the caliber at this time) but would love to spend $20 or so on an empty belt for an SG-43 or VZ59 (both 7.62x54r), load it by hand, and hang it on the wall. However, I am not sure how hard it is to do this. Has anyone ever loaded one of these belts? I have searched for a week and have found very little information (and none that was really helpful). Thanks!

FWIW, I have around 10,000 or so rounds of 54R and over 40 Mosin 91/30s sitting around so this would be a nice addition to the collection.

Don't have an answer to your question, but I'd probably buy a belt and try it out.

Just ordered a 200 round metal belt with can for a Maxim for less than $40 shipped. I'll let you guys know how it works. Ad says it is easy to hand load.

Shipping was lightning fast and the belt/can were in good shape. Hand loading was fairly easy once I stopped trying to push the rounds in and instead pressed them in by pushing them against a hard table.
