In my opinion, these are the top of the line VEPR/RPK/AK style rifles available. I've only noticed about 20 people on the board that have mentioned that they have one. I wonder if we have any lurkers?

I bet if we could get more participation from Hunter/Pioneer/Super owners then we might be able to get a sub-forum specifically dedicated for these unique rifles.

EDIT: We got the forum, so I just added a poll to this thread :)

I actually kind of like them, I'd like a 308 pioneer or hunter to use as a hunting rifle if I thought it could get 2 moa or better. My only issue is the scope mounting issues, Posp scopes are too high and I don't like railed optic mounts on the side rail, so I'm waiting for a company like RS to produce a quality mount with the correct height for the hunter/pioneer.

So the hunter comes with an RPK rear sight, an integrated FSB/GB and a fluted barrel.... question: Is the back slant cut or square?

Neither, I believe it has a strange step cut at the rear.

So basically, you are stuck with that stock for ever.

I have a Vepr Super with thumb hole stock in .223/5.56. I really have learned to like it since I found magazines I can do minor modifications on and get reliable feeding. In the .223 section of the forum I brought up the fact that the Super only has a one piece stock. So by inserting a U.S. made magazine (3 parts) it is 922r compliant. That is a huge plus for me. I did install a bullet guide but really see no other modifications I am interested in doing on this rifle. It is muzzle heavy but that cuts muzzle rise to almost non existent. I can live with the trigger it has. Overall, a very good quality rifle that fits my needs extremely well.

(no muzzle device)

Not compared to the typical Kalashnikov, but that makes them special 8-)

That's what I've got, a .308 Win Hunter.

I have no doubt that it is capable of better than 2MOA. I can't back that up with facts yet though. I'm working on it...

The scope mounting is an issue. The side mount that came with it fits close to the receiver cover after you take out a vertical spacer, but is very slightly offset to the left. It is only about a tenth of an inch off though. You can see the iron sights through a groove in the rail.

It is a NICE stock though. That's part of the appeal. It is an AK inside, but looks like a hunting rifle. I saw a thread that has pics of synthetic stocks for them.

I would absolutely love a hunter in 5.45, but apparently they don't exist.
