Am considering getting a Vepr 12-04 factory sbs. Reading a lot of posts that talk about reliability issues with 12" barrels . Don't want to spend that kind of money and wait time to have run ability issues . Are these guns good to go , or am I going to be disappointed ? Value your opinion , and experience . Please respond

You will probably be happy with it if you don't mind always using strong loads. Don't expect it to run anything weaker than 3.75 dram (1330 fps 1-1/4 oz).

Thanks for quick response . Are there be any be any modifications that you recommend that would help to run lower power ammo ? I know it's hard for you predict how gun will run , but if I would like to be able to run down to 3 drams . Will putting a modified choke help ? Maybe softer set of springs , or could you tweak it in your shop , if needed ?

I know you are asking Evl, but...

The factory SBS has a 12" BBL. And they likely reamed the ports to compensate. It works for high pressure loads.

To shoot 3 dram from a 12” bbl, it's best to move the gas block toward the rear of the weapon to increase impingement time. Saiga's are easy to do like this. Veprs are more involved. Would be better off starting with a 19" bbl that runs exceptionally well.

Evl's take may differ. Whatever he says will carry far more weight than me. :D
