So I'm at the range the other day, when ought out of nowhere I'm approached by a guy who asks if that's a vepr, I knod, he compliments it and I say thx and go back to shooting. Then.... I begin to feel a looming presence look up, there he is staring at my nikon 3-9x40 bdc scope, which he then informs me that scope will get the lenses shook out of it by using it on this rifle! :|

It could be true, my 54r is a beast but I know this scope has no problem with my 870 Remington shooting fxt hornaday slugs, so I'm inquiring these top minds on this forum for advise :D

I disagree until proven true. I used cheaper Tascos on my 54rs with great results. They didnt lose zero or break.I wouldnt worry about it. I did blow up a Bushnell scope on a 16" 54r. I also have used Mueller scopes on my 54rs and harvested several deer with them.

Guns are worthless if you can't feed them....

I just hate those guys
For the record Nikon makes pretty good glass

Some of what he says has some merit
A bolt rifle has recoil forces in one direction , most scopes are designed with this in consideration
A gas operated rifle has recoil forces in two directions the first recoil event is the bullet detonating and leaving the muzzle followed by a second ,opposing force as the bolt slams another round into battery
A lot of scopes just can't survive all that extra ruckus
Weather your particular scope is tough enough , only time will tell
I put a Leopold - Redfield revolution on my 54r , it lasted about 20 rounds , it was replaced with a POSP
OTOH I have a Mueller on a M14 ( well documented scope crusher ) with a 500 + round count
