I recently bought a Vortex Diamondback 3-9x40 scope for my Vepr.

The glass has a nice clear image. I liked it better than a Nikon and some other brands in the $200 price range.
The 3-9x is decent for shooting at 100-200 yards on an AK. If I were shooting a bolt action at 200+ yards, I'd rather have a scope with greater magnification.

I have the Vortex mounted on a Midwest Industries AK mount with Weaver Grand Slam rings. I tried several different rings and these particular ones get the scope down low enough so I can get my cheek comfortably on the stock. I am using the extra-high weaver rings that have a height of .570". You could probably go slightly lower and get the Weaver Grand Slam Top-Mount rings that have a height of .560".

I really like the Vortex BDC reticle. It makes it quick to get on target.
(Not my image.)

While sighting in the scope and just having fun, I noticed I got decent groups when I let the barrel cool down. When I fired several rounds, my groups opened up and raised up about an inch or two. I fired 60 rounds of 7.62 ZQI 147gr and 20 rounds of .308 Federal Fusion 150gr

Here are the groups I was getting at 100 yards when I let the barrel cool down. (I jerked the rifle to the left on one shot.) I'm not the best shot so I'm sure the group could be better.

Here is what happens after firing many rounds and getting the barrel real hot. This is at 100 yards also. I fired these shots pretty quickly.

Overall, I really like this setup. I can get my cheek on the stock and do quick shots. For precision shooting, it would be better to get a scope with more magnification. But I like the 3-9 for a battle rifle. I think it would be harder to make follow up shots when zoomed out even further. The Midwest Industries scope mount gets the scope nice and low. I like it better than the BP-02 scope mount I had previously.

For the price and accuracy you can't beat ZQ1 .Vepr 308 is one of my favorites. What kind of trigger you have in your V308? You might be able to get more accuracy out of it. Mine came with a real gritty 2 stage in it.

It has the 2 stage trigger. i polished it up using the Evlblkwpnz tutorial. I liked it so much that I put a Vepr trigger in my Yugo m70. lol
I actually bought a bag of Vepr triggers for cheap. I tried combinations of trigger parts till I found something I really liked, then I polished that up.

I just pulled both AKs out to check the trigger. yeah, my Vepr has a much grittier trigger on the first stage. I took my time and did a much better job on the Vepr trigger I put in my Yugo. I need to pull out the Vepr and work on it some more. I compared them to the trigger on my K31 and OMG, the K31 trigger is perfection! Lol

*edit*
I just pulled the trigger and smoothed it out some more. The first stage is as smooth as butter now and has a slightly shorter pull. I'll have to tey it out now.

I take a file to the left side of hammer and polish to eliminate the first stage completely. You just have to take your time and check frequently. I have even used the OEM Vepr triggers in my shotgun builds to help increase the reliability of low brass and cut down on refinement time. The G2s are good options for the shotguns but sit a little higher and increase bolt carrier drag on the hammer face.
