"U.S. customers will still be able to purchase Russian AKs from Molot — which produces the high-end Vepr line of Kalashnikov rifles. The standard 7.62x39mm ammunition used by AK designs can still be purchased from the Tula Arms Plant."

Per the article and the statement by the gun shop owner in Ohio... I don't think any of us consider our VEPRs to be "poor quality bullet hoses". Quite the contrary and much better than my now sold garbage AR 308 that jammed in a sprinkle or windy day and needed lube every time I changed a mag to even function.

+1 Have to agree. Bought my Pioneer just in time for the imports to stop. I would not trust an AR or any other autoloader to fill it's role as far as reliability goes. Just kind of blows that Russian ammo won't be imported either. Anything on a form 6 from Russia is banned, or that's what I keep hearing.

I noticed that Molot-USA.com added "new products" for October.
Is this Old Stock or newly imported stuff which would imply they are exempt from OFAC sanctions?
And would imply that there indeed isn't a blanket ban on all AK variants...

Inquiring minds want to know...

Most distributors are selling new old stock firearms. KVAR says they just got a new shipment of Vepr 12's, but there's no way they just came off the boat, unless there's a loophole where KVAR had already purchased the firearms before the ban, and they are just now getting here.

That is exactly the loophole you are looking for, all of these guns were sold and paid for months ahead of the embargo, and have been sitting on ice for months while ATF sought clarification and the green light from the OFIAC.

Yeah. I just got an email from Atlantic Firearms. I asked if they are expecting VEPRs to come in anytime soon and they confirmed that these are banned rifles for import and they cant acquire anymore. So it confirms for sure that veprs are in the same boat as saigas and any other russian made ak.

Doing some early morning web browsing today, I came across a site, don't remember which, that had Dragunovs listed in its "March 2014 ETA". I got all excited for a half second before common sense kicked in

Thought I would update this thread:
In speaking to the Wolf guys yesterday they confirmed that they are still bringing in new Vepr's and that they would not be affected by any ongoing sanctions.

Sounds like great news!

That is interesting! To me it doesn't make sense but I like it! Here is another thing I keep hearing about, maybe someone can comment with more information on this link... the beginning of US made AK variants. I like my Veprs but I'm also happy to see quality aks made here at home too.
