Post subject:  Gas Tube Install Problems

Hey guys new to the forum. Had my Vepr 12 for almost 2 years now. Been slowly accumulating parts and tools to do all the upgrades i desired at once. Originally i went with an Alfa Arms Railed gas tube. The OEM lower handguard retainer was making it not fit which wasnt a problem as i cut the retainer away to install the dissident arms 16 inch handguard. The handguard's retainer is slightly shorter than the OEM retainer. The Alfa arms comes with a castle nut piece to help secure it, to make the gas tube fit i had to unscrew the castle nut as the castle nut was contacting the handguard retainer. It fits very snug on the vepr 12 now and has 0 play. Im just wondering if its safe to run without the castle nut on there? See attached pictures. The first 3 show the castle nut off the tube and how it attaches snuggly to the front sight block.

These next 2 show the back of the gas tube where the gas tube lever is showing its all the way engaged. Just to reiterate there is 0 play, the gas tube doesn't move at all.

I then ordered a BulletTec Gas Tube. That gas tube wont fit either by what would appear to be 1 or 2 millimeters. What im wondering is where i should file on the gas tube to make it fit. These first 2 images show where the gas tube lever is contacting the gas tube.

These next 3 pictures are varous angles of the back of gas tube. The silver in the last picture is where the gas tube lever is contacting the gas tube itself thus creating a scratch.

This next picture shows 2 arrows i drew. One arrow is red. One arrow is blue. Both are pointing at different individual file points just trying to see where the best location to file it is. Blue Arrow or Red Arrow?

Can provide more pictures & videos if necessary. Thank you in advance for any help i receive.

No worries at all, thank you, glad to be among the ranks. I had saw a few posts were you mentioned not a lot of active admins & obviously an admin has to approve each post. So i had expected it to sit for while, like i said thank you for approving it. Unfortunately i see that as well with the pictures not appearing, the img block doesnt like grabbing from google drive it would seem. I'll post all the links.

Yea, we made it so a new members first two or three posts had to be approved before it they were given free reign to post. Couple years ago the board was getting spammed pretty hard. We'd wake up in the morning with a spammer that would leave a few dozen posts all over the board. Was very time consuming to clean up. So you're probably good to go now, maybe one more post? Regardless, some of the smart guys will be around shortly to help.
Welcome to the club! :D

That's completely understandable. Who has the time to sit around and spam a forum? And even if one did have the time you'd think they'd like to spend it doing something more productive. Definitely glad to be here amomg the ranks of some great veterans. Once we get this funny business sorted out with my install, ill post some gun porn of my vepr-12. Preferably with the bulletec gas tube installed. I went with the Alfa arms originally for the all railed look from dust cover to rear sight base to gas tube. Unfortunately the black oxide finish is too different from the black paint used elsewhere on the vepr-12 and im not a rocket scientist or anything but the tube looks like its rusting. Not sure if you checked out the pictures via the links. Either way the Bulletec being a black metallic shiney finish definitely looks nicer & im a fan of the fact that its 1 solid piece versus 2 pieces like the Alfa arms is. Thank you to you and the smart guys for sticking around & running this forum. People like myself, new owners, & perspective owners are very thankful for this site.

Well, I was member #9. Many days I was the only one posting anything new on the site. Those were good days though, pre-sanctions, pre-Evlutionz, etc. Yes, for a while the spamming was crazy, porn links, sex toys... you name it. It did feel good to ban them though, and I did a lot of it. Welcome aboard, thank you for appreciating this place. It is not as busy as it used to be, but still the best Molot weapon knowledge base. We're all a bunch of gun nerds, it's great

How did you figure out what member # you were? And damn that sounds crazy. Good riddance at least, im sure you felt some sort of justice dropping the old banhammer. Pre-sanctions is a world i can only dream of. When did the first sanctions start? There's definitely great knowledge & a lot of gun nerds in this forum. Myself included albeit im stilling learning/the vepr-12 was my first shotgun ever. First gun i ever attempted to modify/gunsmith. I have 3 AR-15's but none of them are too customizable. Once i finish out my vepr-12 i have 2 AR-15 builds that im going to start. First AR-15's i will have built from scratch. Just out of curiosity has anyone tried the links for the pictures from Google Drive? Just curious if they are working for anyone because ill upload them to imgur or somewhere else the img block can actually pull them from.

It was easy, lol. There were 8 and then I joined as mod for Tech/Mod and V12 subforums. I can't speak intelligently on the pic uploads.

Sanctions happened in July 2014

Welcome on board. Man time flies... but these are definitely dark days. Sanctions killed us. We are now just a skeleton crew.
