I was thinking about throwing this scope on my VEPR in 54r. I was told by the good folks over at Primary Arms that as long as you use the 147 grain Russian Surplus ammo, it has similar ballistics to the 308 round. Meaning, I could throw this optic on my 54r VEPR and still use the reticle for BDC and everything. I want to trust this...just not 100% on it. Also, the ammo I have is 148 grain (not 147) as PA suggested...do you think that extra grain is going to kill it for me? Will it throw me off so much that it'll render the reticle useless in my rifle?

I doubt it will be noticeable.. The difference at less than 500 yards should be almost nonexistent..

few grains of the bullet weight will make much less difference than few inches of the barrel length in most cases

the ballistics of the round will differ significantly in a rifle where the barrel is too short for the optimal powder burn
you could of course compensate to a large degree by adjusting the powder type used

same for the 308 you're comparing to
in case of 308 there are also more twist rate choices etc optimizing for certain bullet weight ranges

end result will be a combination of all of these factors

Been looking at this lately as well.

Basically same twist rate, barrel lengths, velocity, and bullet weight. Your good to go, just test different rounds and record your results/holdover (aka "DOPE) for repeatability.

Inexpensive scopes with a lot of features. Or if you have the means and desire go with the Platinum versions for $1000 more for better eye box and glass. You still would be $1000 less than competitor scopes.

I have seen high praise for this scope for the price point. I really like the FFP mil dot option, but will this scope hold up to a thumper ?
