It took me about two minutes with a Dremel to remove my thread cap. I went with a Tobuk style brake. Prior to installing the brake the rifle had a tendency to bounce left after each round, and it would produce a two-foot diameter fire ball at the muzzle that was clearly visible in broad daylight (I've got a 20 inch barrel). With thd Tobuk muzzle brake the left-ward bounce is slightly less pronounced, and fireball is about half the size, and is visible about three feet from the end of the muzzle. I'll more than likely stick with the Tobuk brake based on it's appearance alone (experimenting with various muzzle brakes on Mosin Nagants has taught me that the fireball on a barrel of that length will be ever-present).

It was not difficult to get the default thread protector off. I used my grinder for the beginning and finished with my dremmel to not spoil the threads. I put on it a Howling Raven muzzle brake. I'm sharing a link to the pictures of it.
