Good afternoon all,
I am doing some mods to my VEPR 54R. One of the mods is a clamp-on adjustable gas block with a ball detent adjusting screw that can go to full shut-off if desired. Due to the ball detent, similar to a Syrac AR unit, there is no need for a locking nut or other bulky adjusting mechanism. And with the clamp-on design, with 4 screws, you won't have to pound it onto the barrel. How you get the original off is up to you. I'm making a new S.S. barrel, so I had to depopulate my original anyway.
I am having these made at a local precision machine shop. Since the final cost is based on how many I order, and since I didn't really want to pay for all of the tooling and set-up work myself for just my 4 VEPRs, I thought I would see if there is any serious interest among the members of this forum.

The EXPECTED pricing will be in this GENERAL range: If I order 10, about $350 each. 20 would be about 235 ea. 50 about 175 ea. and 100 about 160 ea. Again, these are general estimates. I have not yet tested the prototype, so there may need to be a few mods or tweeks, but I think I we have it dialed in pretty well. If a screw in a hand-tapped hole in a piece of fabricated metal works OK, this should do just fine.
To be clear, I am NOT a business, do not want to start a business and don't need another job. I'm just another gun nut with 4 VEPRs and a lot of ammo who's tired of walking 50 feet to pick up spent casings and listening to the action beat on itself with each shot. I have a more than full-time job already and will only be able to mess with this on a weekend now and then. Right now, I'm trying to see what sort of real interest there is. I read a lot of posts on various forums about people wanting adjustable gas blocks for their 54Rs. So do I, so here's a possible chance to get a nice custom made one.
If there is interest and I decide to have a certain amount made (after I test the prototype), I will post them for sale in the proper section of the forum. I hope this particular post did not violate a forum rule, and if so, I apologize to the moderator. I admit that I did not take time to scour the rules.

Thanks for your time.

I'm not familiar with the .308 VEPR gas block. Is it exactly the same size and spatial orientation as the 7.62 X 54R?

Thanks for the interest.

I'd love to have one for my .308, but i'm not sure if the dimensions of the gas tube or block are the same or if there are significant differences between the 54r and .308 models.

Lets see what custom made looks like. Showing us a picture may spark more interest.

This adjustable gas block should allow shooting the heavier grain bullets as long as the OAL is maintained
IF the VEPR behaves like the US M14 rifle a heavier bullet increases the gas system pressure beyond design limits causing all sorts of damage

I am in no way a AK specialist this is just a uneducated guess

I'm not sure either. As I mention in the actual ad in the Marketplace section, I had to use the 200 grain bullets at the range. No issues so far and as far as I know, no one who has made a home made device has had any issues.
