I would like to make PAP M85 mags fit my Vepr .223.

Anybody know how to do this?

I am willing to modify the mags and/or rifle. Thanks.

I modded 1 for a Saiga in .223 and it was a PITA..
You would also have to open the mag well on the rifle or shave the sides down on the mag about 1mm.

sorry to bring this old thread back but is the magwell opening on a vepr smaller? I have a 2008 saiga 223 and in the process of converting some PAP 85 mags and the sides did not need to be thinned any. Just the front to clear the bullet guide and trunnion and the rear a tiny bit to clear the center support. Maybe the magwells vary from batch to batch. I can fit a standard 7.62x39 surplus steel mag in my 223 saiga fine. Just wondering as Im looking for a 223 vepr to go with my saiga.

Vepr 223 magwells are skinnier than Saiga 223 magwells.
Vepr 223 magwells are the same as AK74 magwells, and the AK74 mags fit in the Vepr 223. They do not feed good though, mostly because the followers for 223 are different than the followers for 5.45.
Saiga 223 magwells are the same as AK47 magwells.

Yes,smaller. You describe the same mods I made to my pap 85 mag and it feeds great. My Saiga is a slab side. I modified a 12 Galil mag with a magpul follower and it functioned great also. I have not tried the steel 35 red mags yet, but I do have a couple.
Beryl mags are the best bang for the buck and fit both the vepr and Saiga.
