Why did you buy a Vepr in .223 instead of a Saiga in .223?

I think this could be a good topic for the General discussion if it weren't for the .223 part...

I wholeheartedly concur.

Agreed! And I bought the Vepr because of the Bull Barrel and heavier constructed receiver.

Well I bought both,I picked up a used Robinson for $400 and the fit and finish was so much better and the action was smooth as silk compared to other AK's. I was sold on the Vepr at that moment.
I bought the saiga .7.62 first,saiga .223 next,saiga .308 last.
In the mix is a couple of .223 veprs ,1 Robinson and 1 Wpa import. If I had to choose I would pick the Robinson Vepr in 7.62X39.

For me it was when Centerfire had them at...? $499? Bought an 02.308 (+$100), an 01 x39, and the .223, then the V12 a year or so later...but I got kinda screwed when I believed their "only 1000 will be ever be imported" B.S. and paid...ahem...$1350  ;)
Oh and I'm one of the nerds here that LOVES the original slant back, turkish walnut stocks. Coincidentally the .223 had the nicest wood furniture of the lot, kinda wished I hadn't sold it but it was so beautiful I made enough to cover the cost of BOTH other rifles.
