I figured I'd start this off, as some members have been asking for pictures of 223 VERPs.

Mine started as a 16.5" 223 VEPR II (integrated sights). I think I'm done with it at this point.

Upgrades include:
Bonesteel folding stock
Magpul CTR w/ 1/2" riser
US Palm pistol grip
CSS Slotted rail
PWS FSC47 flash hider / compensator
MI rail mount
G2 trigger
Promag (for 223 Saiga's) - had to modify slightly
Eotech for the time being...

Overall, it feels like a very solid build; but it is extremely heavy (compared to a standard AR-15)

Cut thread guard, added faux suppressor to style it up.

Waiting for Ironwood Designs to release their Dragunov SVD style stock and hand guard.

glad I'm not the only one who buys fake cans, the site staff ridicules me for it  but they do serve a purpose, covering up unsightly long barrels and if you are like me and get the steel ones, they add about 3lbs of weight so you know you're carrying around a real rifle and not some Mattel junk

So I got this itch to mount an ACOG on my 223 VEPR, but the factory ACOG rail mount just made the optic sit too high...

So after taking the ACOG off of the factory mount and carefully looking at the rail design of the MI rail, I decided to customize the rail to fit the mounting (bottom) section of the ACOG. Better to modify the ~$100 rail, than the ACOG...

The MI rail already had the center of the the rail cut out, so all I had to do was cut the inside edges of each rail cross section with 45 degree angles on each side to hold the ACOG.

After about an hour or more of careful dremel work the ACOG fit pretty well. I utilized one of the existing holes in the rail to bolt through for the ACOG mount, and drilled a second hole to match up to the ACOG's hole spacing. A quick trip to the hardware store and $3 bucks worth of 10x32 machine screws and washers (for the screw going through the existing, large hole), with some thread locker, and the project is done.

The ACOG and rail mount weigh in around 17oz. I think that is relative light for the setup, besides the VEPR is already not light.

So in the end the ACOG is around 0.300" lower than it was with the factory ACOG rail clamp. Was it worth the effort to get the optic a little lower... I think so. I can get a decent chin/cheek weld with my 1/2" riser on the CTR. Centerline of the optic is around 3.25" above the center of the bore. It would be nice to get an ACOG mounted lower on an AK, but I don't see a practical way of doing so.
